Welcome to this guide, where we’re going to look at the different ways there are to recover your Metamask account in each situation.
We’re going to cover different ways to recover or restore your Metamask account, as long as you have the correct information. And if you don’t, we’ll look at what alternatives exist or can be found to try to recover it.
We will see how to recover your Metamask using the recovery phrase, and then with the private key. If you don’t have the recovery phrase/seed phrase or private key, you won’t be able to recover your metamask. Although if this is your case, we will discuss possible solutions we can try at the end of this guide. So you can go straight to that part. With that said, let’s get started.
Restore Metamask with Recovery/Seed Phrase
To recover your metamask using the recovery phrase, it is very simple. The first thing to do is to install the official extension in your browser or the mobile app if you want to recover it from your mobile.
Once the app or extension is installed, click on start. Then, click on import wallet/wallet. Click on accept. Now, we will first select above how many words our seed phrase or recovery phrase is. Usually it is 12 or 24, but it is possible that yours is 15, 18 or 21. Once we have selected the number of words, we will enter our recovery phrase word by word. And once it is all entered, enter a password and click on import.
With this, our old metamask wallet should appear. If for some reason the recovery phrase does not work, check that it is correct. And if you are still having problems, try to see what word you may have incorrect or it may be another letter, instead of the one you indicated.
Restore Metamask with Private Key
To import an account with the private key, we must first create an account or import an account with the seed phrase as we have seen just before. If you do not have an account in Metamask, we must create one by clicking on create account and following the steps. Always remembering to securely store the recovery phrase.
This is because the private key allows us to import a single account, while the recovery phrase can encompass different accounts. If you want to understand it better, you can visit this guide about the private key in Metamask.
With the account created, we will go to the top right, and we will see the import account option. Click there. Select the private key option and simply paste the private key of the account you want to import.
Click on import, and you will see the account that you have entered the private key for. If it does not appear, check that it is the correct private key and that you have not added extra spaces somewhere when copying it. Also, bear in mind that this account will not be linked to the recovery phrase of the new account, so you will have to save the private key securely.
You can use metamask import from any computer.
Yes, you will be able to use the metamask import function on any computer or device that can install the Chrome, Edge, Mozilla or Brave browser. In the case of mobile devices, you can install the app on both Androis and iOS, always ensuring that it is the official app and not a copy.
In the case of the mobile app, the menus may be slightly different, but there are the same options and the operation is the same.
How to recover Metamask account without the recovery phrase/seed phrase
As we said at the beginning, we are going to deal with this question and situation last. But as we highlighted at the beginning, it is very likely that you will not be able to recover your wallet. Since these are the only ways to access the Metamask account, using the recovery phrase, or with the private key.
However, if you have previously used Metamask on other devices, this may be your way to access it. Whether on your computer or mobile, if you haven’t yet reset or uninstalled the Chrome extension, your Metmask account will still be there. All you’ll need to do is enter your password and you’ll be able to access it again.
If you deleted your Metamask app and Chrome extensions, there is no way to access your Metamask account again without the recovery phrase.
I hope this has helped you learn how to restore and recover your Metamask account in different ways. Remember, if you don’t have a Metamask account, you can create one just below.
