How to Get Started in God’s Unchained From 0 | Beginner’s Guide

Welcome to this post, where we are going to see a detailed guide of God’s Unchained for new players, and be able to understand how this game works.

In this guide we are going to cover the most basic aspects of the game so you can start playing and understand how it works. It is a very complex game, unlike the play to earn games that we usually see and that have little gameplay.

What is God’s Unchained

God’s Unchained is a card game that was released in 2018 on the ethereum network in turn with a play to earn functionality where we can get booster packs by winning to open and get cards. These cards can be bought and sold publicly, so this is one of the play to earn features it has, and differentiates God’s Unchained from other similar card games.

It is currently in layer 2 of immutable X to allow transactions with 0 commissions and not having to pay the high commissions of the Ethereum network.

The game mechanics are very similar to the card game Hearthstone, so if you have played or seen it, you will find it much easier to understand and be able to be good at playing God’s Unchained. The object of the game is to defeat the opposing God before he knocks you out. Starting both players with 30 life in your God, the first one to finish with the 30 life points of the rival God, will win the game.

In addition to getting booster packs and cards, which you can later sell in the Marketplace, they also sometimes do events, where we will receive the token of the game, GODS, which we can later sell and it is another way to generate income playing this game.

God’s Unchained differs from other card games such as Hearthstone or Magic, by allowing you to trade these cards publicly in a Marketplace with a P2P system. The game simply takes a commission from each transaction, but you as a player are free to sell your cards whenever you want if you don’t want to play anymore. In addition to getting booster packs as in other card games, but in God’s Unchained these booster packs and cards have a real value that can be exchanged for money, and not simply to accumulate more cards in your account.

On the other hand, it is not a simple game like the typical play to earn games where you just click a few times and don’t spend a lot of time on it. It is a complex card game, at the level of hearthstone and to be good and get a decent amount of rewards, you must spend several hours every day or every week. So do not expect to play and earn a lot of money, but it is rather for people who like this style of games, and want to take advantage to play and get income for playing, although not very high.

Also, you can start playing the game without investing in it, or spending very little on cards if you want a more competitive deck of cards. In the same way that in a card game like Magic or Hearthstone you would compare booster packs to have a better deck, but in this case you can buy cards directly from other players. There is also the option to buy booster packs from the latest card collection.

Mention that we are not going to look at how you can log into the game, as it is quite simple with creating an account and having a metamask wallet. We will focus more on how the game works so you can understand it. That said, let’s get started.

Card Types

The first thing to know is that there are 3 types of cards in this game. Creatures, relic and spell. Creatures cards have a mana cost at the top left, and at the bottom you can see the damage or attack on the left and the life on the right. The life is the amount of damage it can take before dying. For example, if your card has 3 life, and is attacked by the opponent with a card with 2 attack, it will be left with 1 life. If it is attacked by a card with 3 or more attack, your card will be defeated and will disappear from the board.

Relic has its damage on the bottom left side and the durability on the right side, which is the number of times you can use it. If it has 2 durability, you can attack twice with that card.

Finally, spell, you will see the mana cost at the top left and below the effect it has.

At the top right you will see different symbols on some cards. These icons represent the set that card was cast. This is the collection they belong to. You can see below the different collections that are currently available, and the amount of cards in each of them. For example, we have the genesis set or collection which is the first one that was released in 2018. Or the welcome set which is the welcome set that everyone has when they start playing. Note that the latest collections it is possible that the cards are modified. The only collections that are not modified is once a new one appears.

Every so often there is a release of a new set with new cards to update the meta and the game. In addition to giving more value to the cards that appeared in the other collections, which can no longer be obtained, beyond buying or selling them in the marketplace.

The cards will also have a border with a color, which represents what type of card it is. As you can see in the image, there is deception, light, death, nature, magic, war and finally neutrals. These cards can only be used by that particular god, so you cannot use them in any deck. The only cards compatible in all decks to play are the neutrals.

Keywords

There are many words in this card game, as happens in many other games that there are internal words that until you do not play or they explain what it means you do not understand what it means. As there are many words, I leave you below with an image so you can read it carefully and understand the meaning of each one of them. This is in English, as these words are not translated most of the time.

God’s power

The next thing we find and it is very relevant is the god’s power. Each god has 3 powers that you can choose for your deck. It is possible that they have updated the new powers, but most of them will still be operational as you can see below.

When you are going to create a deck, it is important to take into account the power of the god you are going to choose, so that it has the best synergy and sense with the cards you place in your deck. I recommend looking at gudex.com, where you can create decks, select the god you want to use, and see the different options that are currently available in spells. For example, if you choose the power to heal 2 life to one of your cards, you are going to want to play cards with a lot of life to make it worth the power you get. Also, these powers have a mana cost, which you can see at the top left. Usually their cost is 2 mana, but there are powers with a higher cost.

So it is very important to know which god and power you are going to choose to create the deck around it and make the most of it.

Favors and sanctuary

The game also has a mechanic called favors and the sactum or shrine. On the right side of your screen when playing a game, you will see the shrine. Here you can find cards shared with your opponent, which both you and your opponent have access to. And whoever takes that card, removes it from the shrine and therefore your opponent will not be able to get it or vice versa. To get one of these cards, you must spend your favor. You can see the favor cost under each card by hovering over the shrine with the mouse.

You will get favor by doing damage to your opponent’s god, destroying an enemy creature with a spell or relic, destroying an opponent’s creature with your own creature and it survives or vice versa if your opponent attacks you, and your creature survives, but the opponent’s creature dies. Usually you will get 3 favor per action. But in turn 1, you can only get 1 favor and in turn 2, you can only get 2 favor with these actions. From turn 2, it will be 3 favor each time. When you have enough favor you can click on the card and buy it, and it will appear in your hands to play it. This gives you card advantage over your opponent, as well as being able to get specific cards that you may need at a certain point in the game.

Creating a Deck

The next thing we must do is create our first deck to start playing. To do this, go to the main menu when you enter the game, in workshop. Now, you can click on create a deck and you will receive many starter decks, which are very bad, so I do not recommend you to use them and create your own. The decks are of 30 cards.

Click on create deck and now we must select our god. For example, War. Now, you will see the cards compatible with your god, which are war and neutral cards. You can filter to show only the ones you have in show own and not get confused with cards you can’t use.

Now simply add the cards you want to use in your deck. You will see cards that have a slightly different frame in the shape of laurels, which are legendary cards. These types of cards you can only add one copy to your deck. You can only have 2 of the same card in your deck, except for legendary cards which you can only have one. When you have finished creating your deck with the 30 cards, you must click on save deck, give it a name and click on save.

How the game works

Now if we go to the arena in the menu, you can click on deck and select the deck you have created or want to use. Click on select and click on play to start playing your game. At the start of the fight, you must choose the power of your god, which we have seen above that you can choose between 3 different options with each god.

After choosing our god power, we can see 3 cards and decide to keep these 3 or change any of them by selecting one and clicking on replace. We can do this 3 times maximum if we want to change the first 3 cards we will receive to start the game. If you are the first, you will receive 1 bag of tricks and if you start second, you will receive 3 bag of tricks, which you can use to increase your mana. In each turn it will increase by 1 up to a maximum of 9 mana.

This is a basic explanation of how the game works, but if you want to be good you will need to know the meta and the different strategies and decks that work best to win and rank up. As you rank up, you will get better rewards and you can earn more by playing each time you win, by getting more booster packs or rarer booster packs that have better cards. So if you’re interested, I recommend taking a closer look at the best cards and decks and how to play them in the best way.
